A Letter Never Sent…
Multimedia Installation – “Dear ____”
Liang Su × Joe Fang
This multimedia installation occupied the central space of the second floor at MOCA Taipei, where a monumental structure extended like the body of time itself—its tendrils reaching across the ceiling to connect with other works in the room, visualizing the passage of time as a living, expanding entity.
The piece features the artist Joe Fang’s grandfather as the central figure, whose moving image embodies the transformation of time. Through this portrayal, Liang Su evokes memories of his late father, alluding to the universal experience of longing for those who came before us. The work invites viewers to reflect on their own origins and the meaning of existence.
Projected slowly onto layers of gauze, the video unfolds within a delicate interplay of wind and fabric. The human figure appears and dissolves in a shifting veil of light—sometimes clear, sometimes faint—awakening fragments of memory and emotion that hover between remembrance and oblivion, before fading gently into the other shore of forgetfulness.
